About Mark Schmor

I’m at First Presbyterian because it is committed to being a welcoming community of hope and healing. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this church which has played such an important role in the local area for over a century.

Before moving to the Bend area, I was completing studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. I was fortunate to earn a Master’s Degree during my time at Fuller, but I was more fortunate to meet my wife Stephanie during my time there. Steph was a fellow student of mine, yet somehow her GPA went up after we started dating, while mine went down. I’m still trying to figure out how that happened. Prior to enrolling at Fuller, I spent seven years as the Director of Youth Ministries for the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, Oregon. Having been born and raised in Medford, I am so grateful for the opportunity to return to this beautiful state.

I love all things related to sports; whether it’s playing, watching, or engaging in irrelevant debates about the merits of particular players or teams. I also am a bit of a movie buff and I love to read anything and everything. (In the last 24 hours before writing this bio, I finished Tina Fey’s memoir Bossypants and finally got around to beginning the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien) Since moving to Central Oregon, I have enjoyed exploring the many local hiking trails with my wife, and I also love to travel and enjoy times with friends and family.
