Friends, after one harrowing month in the ICU followed by one grueling month in a skilled nursing rehabilitation facility, I am overjoyed to let you know I brought Laurie home today. There are still many weeks of healing and restoration in front of us but we are so grateful to continue the healing journey at home.
One of my favorite images in scripture has a group of compassionate friends carrying their friend on a stretcher to Jesus that he might experience healing. The crowds prevented them from getting close to the healing presence of Jesus. Their love for their friend would not be deterred. They opened a hole in the roof and lowered their friend to the feet of Jesus in hopes of healing.
All of you have been our stretcher bearers throughout this ordeal. Your care, prayers, support and practical expressions of love have and will continue to carry us as we continue this journey of healing.
Meister Eckhart said “Thank you” are the only two words necessary. Thank you falls short of expressing the deep gratitude we feel to be loved so fiercely and tenderly. Nevertheless, thank you for being our stretcher bearers.
