5 Churches:1 Community
Remember being a teenager? There is nothing more awesome and nothing more terrible than navigating the middle and high school years. It’s a time of trying on many different identities, friendships, passions, relationships, and beliefs in order to figure out who you are, where you belong, and what you want your life to be about. Teenagers want to be known, to be loved, and to participate in something meaningful. One of the most life-changing things a faith community can do is care for our youth unconditionally and find ways to cheer them on as they become who they are.First Presbyterian is part of a truly revolutionary new way of being faithfully present with these incredible teenagers: the Bend Youth Collective. We are four local mainline churches who collaborate to fulfill the vision of the BYC: Creating space for all students to become more whole, belong in community, and participate in the peacemaking way of Jesus.
Since 2010, First Presbyterian has partnered with Nativity Lutheran and Trinity Episcopal to bring this vision to life. Bend Church (formerly First United Methodist Church) joined the BYC in the fall of 2015 and Grace First Lutheran joined in early 2017. We are . . . 5 churches: 1 community + 5 traditions: 1 faith + 5 histories: 1 future
High School and Middle School Youth groups meet weekly during the calendar school year. To register with the BYC, please complete this form: BYC Registration & Release FINAL 15-16
Here’s a glimpse into the Bend Youth Collective . . .
Middle and high school students connect with one another and an amazing team of leaders to talk about stuff that matters, serve our community, play indoors & out, enjoy special events, go on retreats, have a ton of fun, and participate with God in opportunities to love our neighbors. Everyone is welcome, and students are always encouraged to bring a friend!
High School BYC, Mondays* from 7-8:30pm, Boys & Girls Club Downtown
We hope Monday nights will be a place of rest and refreshment from your busy life – we don’t ask anything of you except to show up and be yourself! We meet weekly to laugh, ask questions, and share in small groups about life and engage with the stuff you all care about!
Middle School BYC, Wednesdays* from 6-7:30pm, Bend Church United Methodist
Wednesday nights are for having a fun and meaningful time together where everyone gets to just be themselves! We’ll play games, get to know each other, make friends, talk about stuff middle schoolers care about, and share life in small groups.
*BYC does not meet the last Monday or Wednesday of the month, so that we can meet with, encourage, and learn with our leadership team.
We are always looking for volunteers, even if you don’t feel called to work directly with students. Let us know if you have gifts in:
- Administration and logistics
- Spanish language
- Marketing & Promotion
And of course, if you love AND like middle or high school students, we are always looking for leaders to join our weekly team!
