Centering Prayer
Meets weekly during Enrichment Hour | Location: Prayer Room
Centering Prayer helps us make space for God within our hearts and daily lives.   Jesus said, “When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”  We will practice praying in silence, learn more about contemplative prayer, share resources about Centering Prayer, and support one another in our spiritual journeys.  All are invited, both those new to Centering Prayer and those who already practice it.

Enrichment Hour Class: A Contemplative Look at Jesus — His Spiritual Journey and Ours

February 18 - March 24, 2024
Prayer Room
9am-10am

“Jesus walked this lonesome valley” during his short life leading to the cross. Each
week we will reflect on an event in his life recorded in the gospels, asking what it
reveals about Jesus, and how it relates to our lives. We too walk the lonesome valley in
the community of brothers and sisters. Each week will include Centering Prayer,
scripture, discussion, and suggestions for spiritual practices to deepen our spiritual
journeys during Lent.

Resources will include the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, Richard Rohr’s Wondrous
Encounters, (available at first meeting), and occasional articles sent by email.

February 18 Identity
February 25 Call and Community
March 3 Misunderstood and Betrayal
March 10 Search for Truth
March 17 Sorrow and Joy
March 24 Forgiveness

About Centering Prayer at Bend First Presbyterian

Centering Prayer is a time of making space for God within - and a way to enter stillness. It doesn’t replace other forms of prayer but enlarges our hearts to welcome Christ’s compassion. We gather for 20 minutes of silence in God’s presence, consenting to the Spirit’s agenda and letting go of our own.

Four opportunities for Centering Prayer happen each week at First Pres. Consider making time during the New Year to join others in Centering Prayer.

A contemplative 20 minute prayer practice focusing on one’s relationship with God; turning to God and seeking God’s agenda.
