13 Ways To Be A Force For Good
First Presbyterian is dedicated to seeing and responding to the needs of the others. We believe that as individuals and as a whole, we all have something to offer in making our community, and the world at large, more loving and hospitable places to live.
When others are in need, we are prepared to help, thanks to our weekly volunteers who lead support groups, make quilts and knit shawls and to our partnership with Nativity Lutheran in gathering, splitting and distributing firewood.
Bring God’s heart to the world. Your spiritual path is a personal path, and one that can be supported and nourished here at First Presbyterian Bend through 5 varied worship services, spiritual direction, centering prayer and volunteering.
DO GOOD FOR KIDS
We believe that investing in our youth is the best way to invest in the future. We care for our youth through Kits for Kids, Friends of Jesus, Bear Creek Tutors, the San Lucas Toliman Scholars, First Presbyterian Kids, and the Bend Youth Collective.
MAKE ROOM FOR THE OTHER
Your faith is dynamic. Growth and change are a part of life, and acknowledging that your faith is dynamic and ever evolving will allow you to make room for transformation to occur.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS
At First Presbyterian Bend, we can help connect you with nonprofits and organizations that give back to the community, including Family Kitchen, Bethlehem Inn, Bend Community Center, St. Vincent de Paul and The Loft. Together we make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
TAKE ON TROUBLE
The right kind of trouble can give your life meaning, purpose and it can produce the energy necessary to heal and change the world. At First Presbyterian, the Peace & Justice team aims to reach out into the community, both locally and internationally, to address trouble where it begins.
GROW INTO WHOLENESS
Give the world your Grace–a seamless life of love. We are committed to creating opportunities for our community and individuals to continually grow and evolve into their best selves. By getting involved you not only transform your life, you will transform the world.
HOME SWEET HOME
We believe that taking care of this earth is essential, and at First Presbyterian we do this through local involvement in service projects and international outreach.
At First Presbyterian, we value the wellbeing of everyone, so when we see great need around the world, we do something about it through community involvement with projects like the Guatemala Habitat Project, Syria Fund and Burundi’s Amaharro.
Practicing Spacious Christianity is about a faith that shows itself in love. It’s the belief that our diversity brings us together and conversation and questions take us deeper in our understanding of God.
Trust that love is stronger than everything else we know. Let go of limitations we have placed upon ourselves and others and pose bold questions as we become vulnerable and let light and love into our lives and the lives of those around us.
CENTER FOR WELLBEING
“The illness of one impacts the wellbeing of all. The wholeness of one impacts the health of the world. Our vision is to be a vital presence and resource of healing and wholeness, welcoming and accessible to all, while partnering with others in promoting a greater sense of wellbeing for individuals, relationships, our community and the world.” ~Steven Koski, Lead Pastor at First Presbyterian Bend
Our mission is to create spaces of grace, like our Center for Wellbeing, where
anyone from the community is welcome to join our services and classes (like Tai Chi, Yoga and specially designed classes for people living with Parkinson’s) for their individual healing and personal development.
